SYNOPSIS​

Living in an era of uncertainty under the terrifying reign of Margaret Thatcher and miner strikes in Northern England the life of 11-year-old Billy Elliot, the son of a miner and broken widower, is forever changed one day when he accidentally stumbles into a ballet class after his weekly boxing lesson.

Before long, young Billy finds himself in dance, demonstrating the kind of raw talent seldom seen by the class's arduous instructor, Mrs. Wilkinson.

With a sharp wit and a never-ending stream of cigarettes in her hand, Mrs. Wilkinson's zest for teaching is revitalised when she sees young Billy's potential.
